RE:COTTON AWARD 2008
Who can apply?
Any fashion, textiles or accessories designer or business.
What will judges look out for?
Judges will be looking for organisations which have taken bold and effective steps to improving practice in relation to cotton use.
Judges will assess applicants on the basis of real impacts made in terms of the livelihoods of people in cotton supply chains, and the environment.
Big benefits of the award
Cotton is by far the largest single fibre in production, with 24 million tonnes produced in 2005. Thousands of farmers and their families depend upon the cotton crop.
Conventional cotton production methods have led to immeasurable hardship - in India they have been held responsible for driving 8,900 farmers to commit suicide. Organic cotton initiatives and responsible business strategies around cotton will change the face of the cotton industry.
Apply now - to be recognised as a leader in the arena, and so influence other businesses to follow suit, on a global scale.
